Hydrangea arborescens note |
|
Hydrangea Arborescens, shrub native of eastern USA, it was the first hydrangea to be introduced into Europe (England) in 1736. Hardier than many others hydrangeas, deciduous and erect, it can grow up to 3 m, but normally up to 1-1.5 m. The inflorescence is a fairly flat corymb , that , in some varieties, expands itself to get a creamy white globe. It flowers from July to September. The leaves are ovate, dark green above and paler beneath, with serrate margins. N.B.: • H.arborescens blooms late and flowers on the current season’s
wood: it is therefore very versatile in terms of pruning, like H. paniculata,
and not subject to the damages caused by late spring frosts. |
