Hydrangea involucrata 'Midori tama'
Found on the island of Yakushima in Japan. Lace-cap flower head with very distinguishing colours: the sepals of the sterile flowers are pale green ("midori" is the Japanese word for "green") thus creating a magnificent contrast with the central violet cushion of fertile flowers. Bigger (about 1 meter) and more vigorous than the botanical species, this shrub starts blooming around August to continue far into the autumn and produces larger quantities of flower heads compared to the other involuctata.
