| Hydrangea macrophylla nana
'Pia' The origin of this hydrangea is unknown. It is among the smallest of the species, and is much used in rock gardens. The sterile flowers, made up of three or four narrow, overlapping sepals, are clustered into striking inflorescences, which produce considerable flashes of colour. The plant received its name in honour of Pia de’ Tolomei, an important figure in Dante’s Divina Commedia. | |
