Hydrangea aspera subsp. 'Sargentiana'
This is the largest of the aspera hydrangeas; like the others, it requires a shady site, reaches a spread of 200 centimetres and may exceed a height of 400 centimetres. For this reason, the white sterile flowers seem disproportionately small for the size of the shrub and of the inflorescence; but they are highly decorative. The entire plant, with its imposing size and hairy leaves, petioles and branches, makes a special contribution to large gardens: an unusual air and an appearance that is both stately and splendid.
